A LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & PRESIDENT

Highest Regards,
Welcome to Meaningful Minds United, Inc. We are the first peer-driven Recovery Community Center and Recovery Community Organization in the State of Louisiana. We were established in 2005, shortly after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. The reason we were established is because there were not enough services for individuals with behavioral health challenges. A group of peers met together in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and decided that there needed to be a peer-driven agency in this state.
Therefore, Meaningful Minds of Louisiana, Inc was created. It flourished in this state until 2012 when its past CEO/President passed away. Then in 2020, I became the leader of this great organization and made some improvements. Not only were we recognized in this state, but we also became a national and international organization. We have served Germany, Canada, Venezuela, Sweden, Denmark,
France, and London. This was a new beginning for us, we had a fresh start. During our time of expansion, we acquired a name change, we became Meaningful Minds United, Inc.
We believe in equity, diversity, and inclusion and that all individuals must be treated equally regardless of race, color, or creed. We service all individuals. There are too many inequities that exist in society today and some individuals are being denied services. That is why we exist. To treat every individual as equally human respecting their rights and dignity. We are Recognized Peer Support Specialist by the Office of Behavioral Health. We are nonclinical and we utilize nonclinical methods to achieve results. Peer Support is a proven evidenced-based practice. A peer support specialist is an
individual with lived experience from mental health, substance use disorder, or both. Sometimes an individual is dual diagnosed. This can be an advantage to use because they have lived experience in both disciplines.
Meaningful Minds United, Inc. has a vision which is to establish a Chapter in every region of this great state and beyond. We will not cease our efforts until this is done. We want to include individuals from every age group because of the post Pandemic period. We realize that youth ages 18-24 have had an increase in diagnosis and we invest our efforts in this population. They are our future, and we will repair the breach that exists for the strengthening of our nation’s future.
